Café Coolen

Hoekstraat 35                     Nederwetten

CAFÉ COOLEN

This building was constructed in 1915 on behalf of Theodorus Coolen on the site of the former Onderlinge Boterfabriek De Nijverheid (Mutual Butter Factory). The Nederwetten fire station at the tip of the plot was also demolished at that time. The building initially housed a café, grocery store, and bakery. In 1921, his son Sjef took over the business, and in 1960, his son Theo took over from him. In 1974, a hall was built behind the café and the shop was converted into a cafeteria. When Theo and Sjaan Coolen retired from the business in 1995, the café was converted into a restaurant. In 2012, the building was completely renovated and the hall made way for housing. Theo Coolen's grandson has been running the restaurant since 2025.
